Aquarius
20 January to 18 February. The water bearer: an air sign that holds to the principle, ruled by Saturn in the classical tradition and by Uranus in modern practice. This page is the reference, written plainly, followed by the one thing most sign pages will not tell you.
What the tradition actually says
Western astrology reads an Aquarius Sun as an identity organised around the principle rather than the person. Observational by default, slightly outside whatever group it is in, and more attached to how a thing should work than to who is running it. The air element gives the distance; the fixed modality gives the conviction, which is why the tradition describes Aquarius as the reformer who does not change their mind. Saturn's classical rulership is the part modern pages forget: this is a sign of structure and of standing apart, not only of novelty.
The honest shadow readings in the classical sources are a detachment that can be felt by the people closest as absence, a contrariness that opposes for the sake of it, and a certainty about how things ought to be that does not always survive contact with how they are. The water bearer pours for everyone and can forget the person beside them.
Common misreadings
Aquarius is not a water sign, whatever the name and the picture suggest; it is air, and the water being poured is the tradition's image for ideas given freely. It is not cold; the feeling is real and is expressed as loyalty to a cause or a group rather than as warmth to one person. And a Sun sign describes what you are consciously building, not the whole person: your Moon, your rising sign and thirty other placements say the rest, which is why we calculate all of them.
The part other sign pages leave out
If you are a Aquarius Sun in Western astrology, your Sun in the Vedic system is probably in Capricorn.

Western astrology anchors its zodiac to the seasons; Vedic astrology anchors its to the stars. The two rulers have drifted about 24.2 degrees apart over two thousand years, so if you were born between 20 January and 11 February, your Vedic Sun sits in Capricorn, in one of the lunar mansions Uttara Ashadha, Shravana and Dhanishta. Born 12 February to 18 February, you keep Aquarius in both systems, in the mansion of . Neither ruler is wrong. They are measuring differently, and any product that shows you only one is choosing tidiness over the whole truth.
Those dates are 2026's. The Sun reaches the sidereal boundary at 22:21 UTC on 12 February, so a birth on that day is settled by the hour and the place, and the split moves by about a day every seventy years as the two zodiacs drift apart.

Questions people ask
Is Aquarius compatible with my sign?
Sun-sign compatibility is the postcard version: two placements out of the eighty a real pair comparison reads. The traditions also disagree with each other about pairs, which we show rather than hide. The honest answer needs both charts, and the free calculator is where it starts.
What is a Aquarius Moon or rising?
A Aquarius Moon reads as the emotional pattern (feelings that are thought about before they are felt, and that need space), and Aquarius rising as the first impression of friendliness at a distance, and the frame of the whole chart. Same sign, three different jobs. Your own combination is on your free chart.
Which is right, my Western sign or my Vedic one?
Both. They are two internally consistent rulers laid against the same sky, about 24.2 degrees apart. What matters is knowing which one a reading is using, and what each was designed to do well.
We read charts for pattern and coherence, not prediction. Nothing here tells you what will happen, and nothing here tells you who you are; it shows a structure and leaves the judgement with you.
