2 Earth
Two Earth, the star of the southwest and of late summer: the trigram Kun, the receptive. This page is the reference for the second of the nine, the star the tradition reads as the mother.
What the tradition says
Nine Star Ki reads Two Earth as the soil that supports everything grown in it: steady, patient, service-minded and thorough, noticing what others need and providing it before being asked. The tradition associates it with care, consistency, a preference for building slowly and properly, and a real need to be appreciated out loud. Its element is Earth, its direction southwest, and its trigram Kun, the earth itself, which the I Ching reads as the power of receiving.
The honest shadow is over-giving: everyone's burdens taken on and resented later, a worry that replays every conversation, and a difficulty putting oneself first that can become a way of never being seen. The tradition says Two Earth must watch that there is something left for itself.
The three positions
As a principal star, the self people deal with: Soil supports everything that grows in it. You are steady, patient, service-minded and thorough. You notice what others need and quietly provide it, often without being asked. You prefer to build slowly and properly rather than fast and loud. The risk is over-giving and over-worrying: taking on everyone's burdens, resenting it later, and struggling to put yourself first. You thrive in roles where care and consistency are valued, and you need to be appreciated out loud.
As a character star, what runs underneath: Emotionally, you are nurturing and loyal, with a strong need to be needed. You form deep attachments and can stay in situations long past their sell-by date because leaving feels like abandonment. Worry is your default setting; you replay conversations and anticipate problems. You soften with reassurance and steady routines. The people you love get the very best of you, and you must watch that there is something left for yourself.
As a surface star, the first impression: People meet you as warm, approachable and dependable. You are the one they instinctively ask for help. Under pressure you become practical and slightly anxious: you fuss over details, check things twice and work harder rather than stepping back. It looks capable from the outside but it costs you. Your first-impression strength is that people relax around you.

In the Ki year 2026, from Li Chun 2026 to Li Chun 2027, everyone whose principal star is 2 is in house 6, Metal · autumn begins, authority. A year of structure, responsibility and results. Energy is strong and organised. You may be given more authority, a bigger role or a heavier load. Discipline pays: get your finances, contracts and commitments in order. Good for leadership, long-term planning and dealing with institutions. The risk is rigidity and overwork, and clashing with others who also want to be in charge. Act with integrity; it gets noticed.

In Vedic astrology your periods are your own: they run from the Moon's degree at your birth and nobody else's clock matches. In Nine Star Ki the cycle is the world's: the year star descends by one at every Li Chun, so the whole population of 2 Earths moves from house 6 to house 7 together on or about 4 February 2027. The tradition reads the house as the weather of the year and says the weather is the same for everyone with the same star, which is a claim the other nine systems here never make. The star itself comes from the year of birth alone, so it needs neither a time nor a place, and a January birth belongs to the year before, since the Ki year turns at Li Chun.

1971, 1980, 1989, 1998, 2007, 2016, 2025 and 2034, each from Li Chun, around 4 February, to the next. The stars run backwards through the years, nine to one, so the same star returns every ninth year.

Is 2 Earth a good star?
The tradition does not rank the nine. Each has a character and a shadow, both on this page, and each passes through all nine houses in turn, so every star has its quiet year and its visible one.
