Self-projected authority

The authority of a defined G centre connected to the Throat, with the four centres above it open: the voice of the self. This page is the reference for the Projector authority that decides by talking.

What the tradition says

Human Design reads self-projected authority as truth heard in the sound of one's own voice: the G centre, which holds identity and direction, speaks through the Throat, and a person with this authority finds out what they think by saying it to somebody. The tradition's instruction is to talk it out, not for advice but for the hearing, and to notice which sentences ring true and which do not. It belongs to Projectors with the G to the Throat defined and no motor, Spleen or Solar Plexus in play.

The honest shadow is the voice unheard: the decision made in silence, or made on other people's advice rather than on the sound of one's own saying, and a direction taken because it was reasonable rather than because it was true to the self. The tradition says the self-projected person needs listeners, and that a listener who advises is the wrong kind.

How the chart gives self-projected authority

A defined G connected to the Throat with nothing else beneath it. Clarity arrives through hearing yourself speak, so this one needs to talk a decision out loud to someone who will not interrupt or advise. The listener is a sounding board and nothing more. The answer is in the voice, not in their reply.

On an ordinary day

Self-projected authority on an ordinary day needs a room and a person in it. The tradition asks for decisions to be spoken before they are made, with someone who will let the talk run, and for the sentences that come out sounding like oneself to be the ones acted on.

What Western astrology cannot see: a decision mechanism

A Western chart cannot say whether you decide in the moment or over a wave. Self-projected authority says exactly that.

Western astrology has no type and no authority: nothing in a natal chart says wait to respond or inform before you act, because the tradition reads placements as qualities rather than as mechanics. Human Design takes the same moment of birth, and a second moment about eighty-eight days before it, and reads the sixty-four gates as wiring, so that a type is a type by the shape of the circuit rather than by any planet's meaning. That is why a person can have a Western chart full of fire and be built to wait. We show both, and where the strategy and the Sun sign pull in different directions we say so rather than choosing.

The mechanism is only as good as the birth time: the design side of the chart moves with it, and a defined centre can open with an hour's change. The calculator says which gates and channels carry the definition, and flags a chart that sits near a boundary.

Questions people ask

Who has self-projected authority?

A defined G to the Throat with the four above open. The tradition ranks the centres, and the highest defined one on the list decides; self-projected authority is fifth of seven.

Can I have two authorities?

No. One centre decides, by rank: a defined Solar Plexus outranks everything below it, which is why nearly half of all charts are emotional, and self-projected authority applies only when the centres above it on the list are open.

Can my authority change?

No. It is fixed by the birth chart. What changes is whether it is followed, and the tradition reads the not-self theme of your type as the sign that it is not.

We read charts for pattern and coherence, not prediction. Nothing here tells you what will happen, and nothing here tells you who you are; it shows a structure and leaves the judgement with you.
