Reflector
The type with no defined centres at all: the mirrors, around one person in a hundred. This page is the reference for the rarest type, the one the tradition reads by the Moon.
What the tradition says
Human Design reads a Reflector as a person who takes in the whole of their environment and reflects it back, with nothing fixed in the chart to hold a shape of their own. The tradition reads this as a gift for sampling: a Reflector knows, better than anyone, how a place or a group is doing, because they feel it entirely. The strategy is to wait a full cycle of the Moon, twenty-eight days, before a major decision, since the Moon crossing the open chart is the Reflector's only consistency. The signature is surprise.
The honest shadow is disappointment: at people and places that turn out not to be what they reflected, at being pressed to decide before the cycle has run, and at a world that reads a mirror as empty. The tradition says a Reflector's health depends on their environment more than any other type's, and that the wrong place makes them ill.
How the chart makes a Reflector
No centre is defined at all. Everything here is taken in from whoever is nearby and given back, which makes this one an accurate instrument for reading a room, a company or a family, and an unreliable one for reading itself in isolation. Who this person is around is the single largest variable in the chart. Decisions want a full lunar cycle, about twenty eight days, before they settle.
The signal that something is off is disappointment, and it usually points at the environment rather than at the decision.
On an ordinary day
A Reflector's day is shaped by where it is spent and with whom, more than by what is done. The tradition asks for the right places to be chosen with care, for the lunar cycle to be honoured on anything that matters, and for the sampling to be trusted: what a Reflector feels about a room is usually what the room is like.
What Western astrology cannot see: a decision mechanism
A Western chart says what a person is like. Human Design says how a Reflector is built to decide, and the two are not the same question.

Western astrology has no type and no authority: nothing in a natal chart says wait to respond or inform before you act, because the tradition reads placements as qualities rather than as mechanics. Human Design takes the same moment of birth, and a second moment about eighty-eight days before it, and reads the sixty-four gates as wiring, so that a type is a type by the shape of the circuit rather than by any planet's meaning. That is why a person can have a Western chart full of fire and be built to wait. We show both, and where the strategy and the Sun sign pull in different directions we say so rather than choosing.
The mechanism is only as good as the birth time: the design side of the chart moves with it, and a defined centre can open with an hour's change. The calculator says which gates and channels carry the definition, and flags a chart that sits near a boundary.

Questions people ask
How do I know if I am a Reflector?
From the bodygraph: no defined centres at all. That needs the date, the time and the place of birth, since the design side of the chart is set about eighty-eight days before birth and every gate moves with the hour. The calculator draws it and names the type.
What is the strategy for a Reflector?
Wait a lunar cycle. The tradition reads it as the one instruction that matters, its signature, surprise, as the sign it is being followed, and disappointment as the sign it is not.
Is one type better than another?
No. The five are shares of the population, not ranks, and the tradition reads each as complete in itself. A page that says one type is rare and therefore special is selling something.
We read charts for pattern and coherence, not prediction. Nothing here tells you what will happen, and nothing here tells you who you are; it shows a structure and leaves the judgement with you.
