Fehu
Fehu, the first rune of the Elder Futhark: cattle, wealth that walks. The birth runes are a modern arrangement, twenty-four runes laid over the solar year at fifteen degrees each, and this page says so before it says anything else.
What the rune poems say
The rune poems read Fehu as cattle and the wealth they stand for: movable, countable, able to wander off. The Old English poem says wealth is a comfort to all and must be shared freely if the owner wants honour; the Norwegian and Icelandic poems add that it causes strife among kin. Read as a birth rune, in the modern system, it is resourcefulness, a quick eye for value, and a preference for generating over hoarding.
The honest shadow is greed, or its mirror, giving everything away so there is nothing to protect, and a restlessness about money even when there is enough. The poems' warning about kin is the older shadow: wealth that walks also walks between people.

The meaning, as the site reads it
Movable wealth and what it costs to keep. Fehu is the first rune and it starts with the practical question: what do you have, and what does holding it ask of you. It is earned rather than inherited, which makes it a rune of effort as much as of plenty.
Born under it
You are resourceful and quick to see value, in a deal, a person or an idea. You generate rather than accumulate, and you are usually more comfortable making money than sitting on it. Generous when things are good, and you would rather share a surplus than guard it.
The shadow: Greed, or its mirror: giving everything away so there is nothing to protect. Restlessness about money even when there is enough.
As an hour rune: Someone who meets people expecting an exchange, and is rarely the one who leaves empty-handed.
The thinnest layer here, and we say so
The birth runes are a modern arrangement, and this site labels them as one.
The Elder Futhark is old; the calendar that lays its twenty-four runes over the solar year at fifteen degrees each is Nigel Pennick's, from the late twentieth century, and nothing in the rune poems ties Fehu to 29 June. We compute the half-month from the Sun's longitude rather than from a printed table, so the window moves by a day with the year: this year Fehu runs from 29 June to 14 July, from 7°30′ Cancer of the tropical zodiac. That makes the birth rune a reading of the same Sun the Western sun sign reads, at twice the resolution and with a fraction of the tradition behind it, and the page says so.
We keep it because the poems are worth reading and because a thin layer honestly labelled is more useful than a thick one dressed up. Where it agrees with the sun sign it shares a Sun with, that is arithmetic, not a finding.

Questions people ask
What are the dates for Fehu?
29 June to 14 July in 2026, by the Sun's longitude; a printed table can be a day out either side, which is why a birth within a day of the boundary is flagged by the calculator rather than assigned.
Is the birth rune traditional?
No. The runes are, and the poems that read them are medieval; the calendar of half-months is a modern arrangement, and the site says so on every rune page rather than dressing it as ancient.
What is an hour rune?
The same twenty-four runes laid over the day, Fehu opening at half past twelve, one rune an hour. The calculator reads yours from your birth time, and the tradition behind it is the same modern one.
We read charts for pattern and coherence, not prediction. Nothing here tells you what will happen, and nothing here tells you who you are; it shows a structure and leaves the judgement with you.
