4 Wind
Four Wood, the star of the southeast and of late spring: the trigram Xun, wind. This page is the reference for the fourth of the nine, the star the tradition reads as the eldest daughter.
What the tradition says
Nine Star Ki reads Four Wood as the wind that travels everywhere and touches everything: the natural adviser and connector, persuasive, adaptable, good at reading rooms and moving between worlds. The tradition associates it with trust easily built, a gift for timing, and a talent for knowing when to speak and when to wait. Its element is Wood, its direction southeast, its season the height of spring, and its trigram Xun, the gentle, which the I Ching reads as penetration by persistence.
The honest shadow is the wind's indecision: swayed by whoever spoke last, scattered by too many options, and vague when a firm answer is wanted. The tradition says Four Wood does its best work with a clear anchor, a defined role, and permission to say no, and that without them it drifts.
The three positions
As a principal star, the self people deal with: Wind travels everywhere and touches everything. You are the natural advisor and connector: persuasive, adaptable, good at reading rooms and moving between worlds. You build trust easily and people come to you for counsel. You have a gift for timing, for knowing when to speak and when to wait. The risk is indecision and being swayed by whoever spoke to you last; too many options and you scatter. You do your best work with a clear anchor, a defined role and permission to say no.
As a character star, what runs underneath: Emotionally, you are gentle, sensitive to atmosphere and easily influenced by the moods around you. You want harmony and will bend yourself to keep it. You can be talked into things you later regret. You need reassurance and a sense of belonging, and you are hurt more by coldness than by conflict. When secure, you are warm, generous and loyal; when insecure, you become vague and drift away.
As a surface star, the first impression: People meet you as charming, easy to talk to and socially fluent. You put others at ease and adapt to whoever is in front of you. Under pressure you hesitate: you look for more information, canvass opinion and delay the decision. It reads as diplomacy, but it can leave people unsure where you stand. Your first-impression gift is that almost everyone likes you.
Where 4 Wind is this year
In the Ki year 2026, from Li Chun 2026 to Li Chun 2027, everyone whose principal star is 4 is in house 8, Earth · the mountain, stillness before the dawn. A year of consolidation and inner change. Energy turns inward again, but with the weight of a whole cycle behind it. Time to finish, to deepen, to consolidate gains and prepare for what is coming. The distinctive feature is sudden, unexpected change: shifts arrive abruptly rather than gradually. Do not force outcomes; patience compounds. Good for study, writing, completing long projects and quiet strategic thinking. Not a year for noise. What you finish now is what gets seen next year.
From Li Chun 2027 the star moves to house 9, Fire · full brightness, visibility.
The only system where everyone moves through the years together
Every 4 Wind on earth is in the same house this year, and moves to the next on the same day.

In Vedic astrology your periods are your own: they run from the Moon's degree at your birth and nobody else's clock matches. In Nine Star Ki the cycle is the world's: the year star descends by one at every Li Chun, so the whole population of 4 Winds moves from house 8 to house 9 together on or about 4 February 2027. The tradition reads the house as the weather of the year and says the weather is the same for everyone with the same star, which is a claim the other nine systems here never make. We show it beside them and do not count the shared turning as a finding about you; what is yours is which house your star is in.
The star itself comes from the year of birth alone, so it needs neither a time nor a place, and a January birth belongs to the year before, since the Ki year turns at Li Chun.
About 60 seconds · needs only your date of birth · the year turns at Li Chun
