The number, read across the three
Human Design places gate 59 in the Sacral and reads it as sexuality: the energy that breaks down the barrier between people, the fertility that makes a bond, the strategy for intimacy each person carries. Gene Keys reads it as dishonesty to intimacy, the movement from hiding to being seen. The I Ching calls it dispersion, dissolution, wind over the water.
The honest shadow is dishonesty: barriers broken for the wrong reasons, an intimacy that is really strategy, and a sexuality used to get something other than closeness. The tradition says gate 59 with gate 6 is the channel of mating, and that the friction of the other gate is what makes the intimacy real.
The hexagram
The judgement: It carries through. The king comes to his temple. It is worth crossing the great water. It is worth staying straight.
The image: Wind moving over the water. So the early kings made their offering to the highest god and built temples.
The six lines
Line 1. He is carried clear by the strength of a horse. Good fortune.
Line 2. In the dispersal he runs to what supports him. Regret fades.
Line 3. He disperses his own self. No regret.
Line 4. He disperses his group. Good fortune from the source. Out of the dispersal, a hill. That is not what ordinary people think of.
Line 5. His loud cries disperse like sweat. Dispersal. The king stays in his place. No fault.
Line 6. He disperses his blood. Going away, keeping far off, getting out. No fault.
In a Human Design chart
Gate 59 sits in the Sacral centre. Its channel partner is gate 6, in the Solar Plexus centre. When both gates of a channel are activated, one from each end, the channel is defined and both centres with it, which is how the tradition builds a type and an authority. A gate on its own is a hanging gate: a theme without its circuit, and the tradition reads it as a pull towards whoever carries the other half.
Three traditions, one number
The same sixty-four figures, read three ways, and the three do not say the same thing.
Human Design took the sixty-four hexagrams of the I Ching and mapped them round the zodiac as gates, so that a planet at a degree is a planet in a gate; Gene Keys took the same sixty-four and read each as a spectrum from a shadow to a gift to a siddhi; the I Ching itself reads the figure as a situation, with a judgement, an image and six changing lines. Number 59 is sexuality in the first, dishonesty becoming intimacy in the second, and Dispersal in the third. They share a number and a diagram, and they were written for three different purposes, which is why we show all three rather than translating one into the others. Is hexagram 59 the same as gate 59?
The same figure and the same number, read for different purposes: the I Ching reads it as a situation you have cast or are in, Human Design as a fixed activation in a birth chart. A cast hexagram is not a natal gate, and the site keeps the two apart.
