The month at a glance

Where they agree, and where they argue

The month turns in the middle, in every system

Mercury turns direct on the 13th, Venus on the 14th, the sidereal Sun changes sign on the 16th and a fresh lunar build phase opens on the 17th. Four traditions put a hinge in the same few days. The honest November plan treats the first half as finishing October's review and the second half as moving.

From dark lamp to bright lamp

The new moon of the 9th is the dark night Diwali is set by, and the full moon of the 24th falls in Krittika, the flame mansion the Tamil festival of lamps is set by. The month runs from lit darkness to open light, and the Sun's arrival in Sagittarius on the 22nd carries the same lift.

Expression, once the road clears

The universal month is 3, the tradition's number of expression. The Sun opens the sidereal Scorpio month crossing gate 1, the I Ching's Creative, and ends the month in gate 34, the Power of the Great. The late month is built for output.

Steady ground or raised voice?

Nine Star Ki gives November the 8 White Earth note: stillness, accumulation, the mountain. Numerology gives it a 3: expression, the social voice. One system says consolidate quietly, the other says speak. The runes side with the mountain: Hagalaz then Nauthiz, hail then need, constraint twice over. The argument is real, and the hinge in mid month is probably where it resolves, one way per person.

How dark is the dark half?

The Western first half, two retrogrades under a Scorpio sun, reads heavy. The Vedic first half holds Diwali, with Jupiter exalted overhead. The same fortnight, a warning in one tradition and a festival in the other. We decline to referee.

Week by week

Week 1 · 1 to 8 November

Finishing October's homework

  • Last quarter Moon in tropical Leo on the 1st
  • The trecena of 1 Manik from the 5th
  • Winter Begins on the 7th: the Earth Pig month and the 8 White Earth month open together

Still a double retrograde sky, and the traditions agree on its use: close the review Venus opened in early October rather than start November's projects early. The Earth Pig month is read in Four Pillars as the year's water gate, preparation and storage before winter. The deer trecena is the Tzolk'in's steady hand: tools in order, pace even.

To sit with: What did October's review actually conclude? Write the conclusion down before the sky moves on.
Week 2 · 9 to 15 November

The dark that holds the lamps

  • New moon on the 9th in tropical Scorpio, sidereal Vishakha, the dark night the festival of lights is set by
  • Mercury stations direct on the 13th
  • Venus stations direct on the 14th

The deepest week of the month and the one where everything turns. The new moon falls in Vishakha, the mansion of the gateway, read in the tradition as single minded approach to a threshold. Then, within thirty hours, both retrogrades end. Whatever was under review since early October gets its verdict this weekend, and the traditions read the days after a station as the slow release of a held breath, not a starting gun.

To sit with: What verdict has quietly already been reached, waiting only for you to say it out loud?
Week 3 · 16 to 23 November

The road clears

  • Vrischika Sankranti on the 16th, the Sun entering sidereal Scorpio
  • First quarter Moon in Aquarius on the 17th
  • The trecena of 1 Ahau from the 18th, closing the 260 day round
  • The Sun enters tropical Sagittarius on the 22nd

The first clean build week since September: no inner planet retrograde, a working quarter moon, and by the 22nd the tropical Sun in the sign the tradition reads as range and honesty. The Tzolk'in spends the week closing its entire 260 day count, which the daykeepers treat as a completion season inside the ordinary one. Output begun now runs with the sky rather than against it.

To sit with: What were you waiting to start? This is the week the excuses expired.
Week 4 · 24 to 30 November

The month of lamps ends in flame

  • Full moon on the 24th in tropical Gemini, sidereal Krittika, the flame mansion of the Tamil lamp festival
  • Nauthiz, the need rune, holds the half month
  • The Sun crosses Human Design gate 34, the Power of the Great

The full moon lands in Krittika, the mansion of the sacred flame, closing the arc that began with Diwali's darkness: the month literally runs lamp to lamp. The Western full moon in Gemini is the classic end of month clearing of words, everything said at once. The need rune underneath counsels economy: power spent where it is needed, not where it shows.

To sit with: Which fire are you feeding into December, and which one has already given its light?

Conditions, not predictions. Nothing here says what will happen.
