The number, read across the three
Human Design places gate 25 in the G centre and reads it as the spirit of the self: innocence, the love that has no object, the capacity to meet what comes without a plan. Gene Keys reads it as constriction to acceptance, the movement from a closed heart to an open one. The I Ching calls it innocence, the unexpected, acting without calculation.
The honest shadow is constriction: an innocence that was hurt and closed, a love withheld until it is safe, and a spirit that has stopped meeting what comes. The tradition says gate 25 with gate 51 is the channel of initiation, and that the innocence is tested by shock and either survives or hardens.
The hexagram
The judgement: From the source, it carries through. It is worth staying straight. Whoever is not upright meets harm, and it is not worth having somewhere to go.
The image: Thunder rolling under heaven, and everything as it truly is. So the early kings, rich in character and in step with the season, brought all beings on.
The six lines
Line 1. Without falsehood. To go is good fortune.
Line 2. Not ploughing for the harvest, not clearing the ground for the field it will become. Then it is worth having somewhere to go.
Line 3. Harm that was nobody's doing. Someone ties up a cow; the passing traveller takes it, and it is the townspeople's loss.
Line 4. You can stay straight here. No fault.
Line 5. Illness that was nobody's doing. Use no medicine and there will be gladness.
Line 6. Without falsehood. To act now brings harm. Nothing here is worth doing.
In a Human Design chart
Gate 25 sits in the G centre. Its channel partner is gate 51, in the Heart centre. When both gates of a channel are activated, one from each end, the channel is defined and both centres with it, which is how the tradition builds a type and an authority. A gate on its own is a hanging gate: a theme without its circuit, and the tradition reads it as a pull towards whoever carries the other half.
Three traditions, one number
The same sixty-four figures, read three ways, and the three do not say the same thing.
Human Design took the sixty-four hexagrams of the I Ching and mapped them round the zodiac as gates, so that a planet at a degree is a planet in a gate; Gene Keys took the same sixty-four and read each as a spectrum from a shadow to a gift to a siddhi; the I Ching itself reads the figure as a situation, with a judgement, an image and six changing lines. Number 25 is the spirit of the self in the first, constriction becoming acceptance in the second, and Without Falsehood in the third. They share a number and a diagram, and they were written for three different purposes, which is why we show all three rather than translating one into the others. What does gate 25 mean in Human Design?

What is Gene Key 25?
The same number read as a spectrum: the shadow of constriction, the gift of acceptance, the siddhi of universal love. Gene Keys reads the shadow as the starting point and the gift as what it becomes when it is met rather than fought.
Is hexagram 25 the same as gate 25?
The same figure and the same number, read for different purposes: the I Ching reads it as a situation you have cast or are in, Human Design as a fixed activation in a birth chart. A cast hexagram is not a natal gate, and the site keeps the two apart.
